India’s ranking at Global level

Nothing can be so relaxing like waking up at your own liberty in holidays and catching hold of newspaper to get the country updates which often get neglected in the regular and competitive course of work. Well, while being an educationist youth behaviour has always been the cause of appreciation and concern too but one news that stuck my eyeballs was India deteriorating to 140th rank in happiness index in the recent report. I immediately started looking around the faces near me to evaluate, ‘Are we that unhappy’?

The growth of any nation is dependent on the well being and happiness index of it’s people and not on infrastructure development. In order to know the actual worth of nation, it is important to know the social and economical well being of the citizen, in which we Indians lack.

Looking at the recent developments, we are so occupied with infrastructure development and fighting our own internal political battles that we are hardly working on improving human values. Though Human rights and human values have been burning topic for discussion at national and international levels but the output has been next to negligible. So, let’s look at human growth index in various parameters and try to gauge the reasons behind it:

As per the 2019 Happiness index UN report, we are ranking 140th as the happiest nation. As per one of the studies conducted by Lancet Public Health, it has been found that people at 65 years of age face similar health concerns those 75 years of person face of Japan and Switzerland. So let have a glance at the positions secured by India in these international surveys in 2018:

Global Hunger Index: It is very surprising to know that land that was once known as Land of Golden bird ranks at 103th position out of 119 nations in context to Hunger index.

Global Peace Index: We had exemplary leaders who have always spread the message of peace across world and then also we are not able to keep that zeal alive among our people and ranks at 136th out of 163 countries.

With context to giving and helping people we rank at 124 rank out of 146 nations in World Giving Index and holds second position at highest number of helping people.

Global Climate Risk Index 2018: 6th

World’s most dangerous nations for women: 1

World’s laziest country: 117/168

Human Development Index: 130 / 188

Global Gender Gap Report: 108 / 144

Well, all these facts and figure make it necessary for us to dwell in activities that make us happy.  Its high time we should make an extra endeavour to strongly build moral values than human machines that lack sensitivity and basic amenities for survival.
