Is Sarva Siksha Abhiyan actually happening?

Education is every human right and every elections we see, government realising huge funding for government programs, one of them being Sarva Siksha Abhiyan.SSA is operational since 2000-2001 and aims at the universalisation of elementary education in a time bound manner for 6-14 years if children. In 2015 the funds sharing pattern of SSA was decided to be in the ratio of 60:40 between Centre and States (90:10 for the eigth North-Eastern States and three Himalayan States) with effect from the year 2015-16. The revision has been done in view of the higher devolution of funds to the States from 32% to 42% as recommended by the 14th Finance Commission. Well, reality is what you face than you know it and today was one such eye opening experience.

Today, I happened to visit one of the government school whose appearance looked nothing better than a barren land. Dry grass, unpainted walls, untidy washbasin, no clean water cooler to drink and Swachta was no where seen.

The school had classes till fifth and is run by one principal and a teacher. Workers preparing mid-day meal get paid in peanuts and the kitchen cleanliness was nowhere seen.

But what keeps the minimal staff going is the zeal and talent of the students that remain unmatched with privately educated students as well.

So, one question that every visitor to government school would have in mind is where does all the money sanctioned by the government goes. Well, in a country where name blame is regular practice it is difficult to trace the culprit.
So, if we aren’t getting the basic necessity of education to our city which development we are working for, just Urban India. And if the government fails, it becomes our moral responsibility to support our nation in every possible way. If we can’t be at the borders for national security at least we can support and make our internal human force strong through education and high moral values.
